The 2006 Crabbe Memorial
Poetry Competition
(Inaugurated in 1954 - The Bicentenary of the Birth of George Crabbe)

The winner of the First Prize will receive the Crabbe Memorial Silver Rose Bowl, engraved with the winner's name, to hold for one year, together with £250. The Second Prize will be £100 and the Third Prize £50.

An anthology of the winning and commended poems will be published in October 2006. Copies may be ordered in advance price £2.50 (inc p&p)

 

RULES OF ENTRY

1. Poets eligible are those who were born, educated or resident in Suffolk (for at least a twelvemonth) or who are members of the Suffolk Poetry Society. New members welcome.

2. Poems may be on any subject and in any form or style but must be in English and not exceed 50 lines.

3. Poems must be the writer's own unpublished work (other than school or local publication) and must not have been broadcast or submitted previously to this competition or entered for any other current competition.

4. Each poem must be typed on a separate sheet of A4 on one side only in triplicate, with the poet's name and address at the foot of only one copy.

5. The entry fee is £3 for the first poem and £1 for each additional poem.

6. Signed entry forms and submissions should be sent to the Competition Secretary, by the closing date: 31st May 2006. Poems cannot be returned.

7. Entries must be sent to the Competition Secretary by the closing date with the completed Entry Form, signed by the poet. Poems cannot be returned.

8. Competitors' names are not disclosed to the adjudicators - Neil Powell and Andrea Holland, whose decision will be final. There can be no correspondence concerning the results which will be announced to the local press as the winners are notified.

9. The Copyright of each poem entered will remain with the author, who will grant Suffolk Poetry Society permission to publish any winning poem it may decide.

10. No entrant may win more than one prize.
