Thoroughfair 2004

Once again the sun shone for the Halesworth Food and Craft Fair - Thoroughfair 2004. The Entrance for the main town carpark was brightly decorated by this large stall selling all kinds of flowering plants.
Suffolk Organic Garlic from Ubbeston were here too with a lovely array of big fat juicy green garlic bulbs. The green garlic is garlic that has not been dried and cured and has a softer sweeter flavour. There are several outlets in Halesworth that sell the garlic or you can buy it direct from the Farm (Tel: 01986 798227)
Eitorf (Halesworth's twin town in Germany, 25 miles south east of Koln) had turned out in force. They asked for a group photo complete with glasses of the local beer they had brought with them and of which they are justifiably proud. They even brought a supply of the special beer glasses with them too.
The Eitorf team also treated us to real German Bratwurst. The bread was German too and although small went well with the big sausages! My wife told me not to use this picture as she thought it looked rude but beauty is in the eye of the consumer and having consumed one of these sausages I know it was the real thing.

Here are some garden ornaments with a difference. Nesting boxes are so last year - every smart garden today should have a hand crafted fairy home for the little people!

Craftco are a crafts co-operative based locally with a shop in Southwold. The shop is a treasure trove of crafts and is on the junction of High Street and Victoria Road. This colourful display of ceramics and textiles attracted a good deal of interest.
Terry Wright was working at her jewellery as we watched. It is all made from paper and thread with each piece unique. The colours were vibrant and the pieces delightful. This is a good example of the excellent quality of the craft work that Thoroughfare attracts.

Peter Dibble of Norwich (01603 662725) was happy to talk to anyone interested in the traditional baskets he makes by hand from willow grown specially on a farm at Linstead near Halesworth. Once again local products made from local materials.
Simply Soaps are a Throughfare stalwart having attended every single event. I love these soaps which are hand made from pure ingredients - often organic too. The scents are natural scents derived from the things used to make the soaps. Made in large blocks, the cut soap bars on sale do look very like pieces of cheese although the aromas are far more attractive!

These entertainers were making music from these unlikely items. The young children were fascinated by the sounds they could produce by whacking the ends of plastic pipes with soles of flipflops. The pipes had been tuned by cutting to the right lengths to make melodic notes, and the experts were on hand to make sure the correct wrist action was used!
I missed the name of this stall but I was so taken by the beautiful colourful range of cups, plates and bowls on display that I had to include it here.
