The land here is mainly sand and a winter storm can carry away several feet of Suffolk in one night! At nearby Dunwich nothing remains of an important Roman settlement, in fact very little remains of the medieval town and even that is under threat. This church (St James) is now the Parish Church however it was originally built to serve the needs of the leper colony on the very edge of the city of Dunwich. In the churchyard the remains of the old leper chapel are still to be seen.Return to Photo Index Next Picture
