Symon Clarke has composed music for a wide range of ensembles from a set of duos for stringed instruments to full orchestra and for the Javanese and Balinese gamelan.

He has worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the Brno Philharmonic and the Philippines Philharmonic, the Gabrielli Brass Ensemble, Lontano, Divertimenti, the Chromatico Ensemble, the Kingfisher Ensemble, Klangwerk Münster, the Concorde Ensemble, the Medici String Quartet, the Brindisi String Quartet and soloists such as Jane Manning, Mary King, Christina Fuchs, Tine Verbeke, Natalie Raybould, Tara Bouman, Stephan Froleyks, Andrew Ball, Beth Spendlove, Nigel Clayton, Sarah-Jane Bradley, Graham Walker and Alexander Baillie.

Symon’s music has been recorded by Ablaze Records and Alpha Beta Gamelan and broadcast in the UK, Germany, Holland, Ireland and the Philippines. As a student he won the Greater London Arts Composition Prize and has been a short-listed composer for the SPNM several times. His music has also been highly recommended in the Uuno Klami International Composition Competition.

During the 1990s Symon studied, played and composed music for the Javanese and Balinese gamelan working in the UK, Holland, Germany and the far east. His music for these instruments has been widely played to great acclaim, including a performance at the Glastonbury Festival!

His most recent recordings are a disc of three song-cycles, written over the last 15 years and sung by soprano Natalie Raybould with musicians from the Brno Philharmonic, conducted by Mikel Toms. His latest disc by the same musicians from Brno and Mikel Toms is of four recently composed pieces for various large chamber ensembles.
