Open Day at STEAMWORKS

The SteamWorks site in Blyth Road lies adjacent to the 1879 Southwold Railway trackbed and close to the site of Southwold Station. Just ten minutes' walk from the town centre, it is where The Southwold Railway Trust volunteers are working on locomotives and rolling stock, with the aim of re-creating the experience of travelling on the 3-foot gauge Southwold Railway (operated 1879-1929). Open Days are taking place on selected dates in July and August - come and see how this recently acquired site is being transformed, the 3-foot gauge steam engine Scaldwell, the Blyth Valley Light Railway (a 7.25 inch railway), and learn more of what the Trust is achieving. Refreshments available. Shop. All Welcome.

Tour of Southwold Lighthouse

Tours of Southwold Lighthouse take place on selected dates between April and October and are organised by Southwold Millennium Foundation under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House. PLEASE NOTE minimum height requirement of 1.1 metres tall to climb the tower. Last tour this session is at 12:30pm. NB-Please telephone in advance for group bookings of ten or more people.
Ticket Details: Adult £4, child £3 (minimum height 1.1 metres). Family Ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children £12

Walberswick Village Fete

SABAR DRUM & KORA EVENING

With Modou Diouf & Defo Kanuteh. Come and hear the explosive sounds of the SABAR DRUMS, played with hand and stick. The popular Master Drummer from Senegal, Modou Diouf, will play with his band Jappo to create loud, exciting rhythms and cross rhythms, guaranteed to get you dancing!

In contrast to the Sabar rhythms, the enchanting, calming melodies of the Kora (21 string African Harp) and Balafon (wooden Guinean Xylophone) are mesmerising. Sefo Kanuteh is a highly accomplished and gifted musician and composer who plays the Kora and Balafon flawlessly and beautifully, delighting his audiences.
