Director Paul Verhoeven, 2016, France, 130 mins. With Isabelle Huppert, Laurent Lafitte, Virginie Efira, Anne Consigny.
This provocative film has been the cause of considerable controversy. Its star, Isabelle Huppert, is well known for her willingness to take on difficult roles that other actors avoid. ‘Riveting’ , Electrifying’, ‘Audacious’ have all been used to describe what has been labelled a rape-revenge black comedy. It is the reaction of elegant, sophisticated Michelle to the violent attack she suffers at the hands of an unknown intruder that is truly shocking.
Ticket Details: Standard £5, Cinema members £4.
