Open Day at STEAMWORKS

The SteamWorks site in Blyth Road lies adjacent to the 1879 Southwold Railway trackbed and close to the site of Southwold Station. Just ten minutes' walk from the town centre, it is where The Southwold Railway Trust volunteers are working on locomotives and rolling stock, with the aim of re-creating the experience of travelling on the 3-foot gauge Southwold Railway (operated 1879-1929). Open Days are taking place on selected dates in July and August - come and see how this recently acquired site is being transformed, the 3-foot gauge steam engine Scaldwell, the Blyth Valley Light Railway (a 7.25 inch railway), and learn more of what the Trust is achieving. Refreshments available. Shop. All Welcome.

Southwold Summer Theatre - MURDER WEAPON by Brian Clemens

Matinee performance. Murder and mystery from the creator of “The Avengers”. Chief Constable Jessica Bligh returns to the home of her best friend, Diane, after a night out to find herself the key eye-witness of a murder. According to the cynical Inspector Fremont, the case is cut and dried but Jessica is not so sure. Yes, the prime suspect was standing over the body of Diane’s husband with the proverbial smoking gun in his hand, but it doesn’t feel right. Less of a whodunit than a how and why, Fremont’s case rapidly unravels until no one is sure who the murderer is, nor what exactly is the identity of the murder weapon itself.
Performances 17th-29th July (not Sunday).

Developing Artist and Shubbak present AND HERE I AM

A new Palestinian production called And Here I Am touring the UK this summer. And Here I Am is a one man show that explores the coming of age story of Palestinian freedom fighter turned actor, Ahmed Tobasi (he was in The Siege). Performed by Tobasi himself, with a script penned by award winning Iraqi-British writer Hassan Abdulrazzak, this production is a journey through identity that takes us from the first intifada to the second, from his role as a resistance fighter to an artist, from life as a refugee in Palestine, to a refugee in Norway.
And Here I Am is playing in July as part of the prestigious Shubbak Festival in London and touring the UK from mid-June including to The Lowry and the Liverpool Arab Arts Festival. It will be performed in English to make it assessable to wider audiences and is designed to be a small scale flexible touring production.
