Set among the Roma gypsy community in Calabria this film has been compared to the works of De Sica and Visconti. When teenager Pio's father and big brother end up in prison he decides the time has come for him to step into their shoes and become the clan's breadwinner. But there is competition from the African immigrants who also fight for survival. The use of non professional actors contributes to a documentary-like sense of reality.
