Talk : 'On Being A Hospital Patient Before The NHS'

With Dr.Jane Pearson, who taught history at the University of Essex for many years, specialising in local history. Her talk is a study of nineteenth-century hospitals, in particular looking at why they were necessary, how they were viewed by patients, and how they affected the medical profession's development. The case studies will be taken from Essex and will focus on Colchester.

One of the Southwold Museum and Historical Society's Winter Lectures, with Steve Gunn, Fellow and Tutor in History, Merton College and Professor of Early Modern History. charles Brandon was one of the most successful courtier's of Henry VIII's reign. This lecture will tell how that success was made, maintained and displayed.
