Southwold WEA Spring Course: The Golden Age of Television Drama
Venue: Methodist Church Hall, East Green, Southwold
A course of seven weekly sessions, with tutor David Read, commencing Wednesday 24th January. This course will be an exploration of some seminal productions that established television drama as a new art form. It will enhance learners’ understanding of the development of television drama and the cultural context in which writers and directors were able to develop their techniques.
Come along to the first session free of charge - a 'taster session'.
Venue: The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth
Director David Lynch, 1999, USA, 112 mins with Richard Farnsworth, Sissy Spacek, Harry Dean Stanton, Jane Galloway Heitz.
This is the last thing you would expect from the director of the deeply disturbing Eraserhead. It's a road movie in slow motion as 73-year-old Alvin Straight sets out on his lawn mower to visit his estranged brother who has just had a stroke. Alvin's on a 270 mile trip at 10 miles per hour. There's plenty of time to think, to gaze up at the stars and to appreciate the everyday wonders that we take for granted.
