The SteamWorks site in Blyth Road lies adjacent to the 1879 Southwold Railway trackbed and close to the site of Southwold Station. Just ten minutes' walk from the town centre, it is where The Southwold Railway Trust volunteers are working on locomotives and rolling stock, with the aim of re-creating the experience of travelling on the 3-foot gauge Southwold Railway (operated 1879-1929).
Open Days are taking place on selected dates between 14th July and 2nd September - come and see how this site is being transformed, the 3-foot gauge steam engine Scaldwell, the Blyth Valley Light Railway (a 7.25 inch railway), and learn more of what the Trust is achieving. Built in 1887 and standing 31 metres high Southwold Lighthouse is one of only ten lighthouses which Trinity House open to the public. Tours take place on selected dates March to October inclusive and are organised under licence by Southwold Millennium Foundation. Note that there is a MINIMUM HEIGHT restriction of 1.1 metres tall to climb the tower. Last tour commences 30 minutes before closing time. CLOSED FOR LUNCH 1pm-2pm.

Model yacht sailing has been taking place in Southwold for over 100 years. It is a tremendously fun and absorbing activity which is very easy to get the hang of, and people of all ages and abilities can join in. Anyone is welcome to come and have a go at sailing – we can even lend you a boat for the day and show you what to do.
Today, a programme of regular races (two races per boat), followed by the Pout Cup, for sailors of 16 and under, comprising of a modified ‘point to point’ course in which each boat has to sail to each bank before returning to the start bank. Taking place on the last weekend of July and the first weekend of August with all proceeds to the maintenance of St. Mary's Church and the Old School Hall.
Just five miles from Southwold and set in idyllic surroundings of the orchard and garden of the Old School in Uggeshall, the teas have become a fixture in the diaries of numerous visitors to Suffolk over the past 48 years. Friendly villagers serve traditional home-baked drop scones, breads, Suffolk rusks and delicious forget-the-waistline cakes, all served with freshly-made pots of tea.
