Our guides will help you to spot some of these beautiful flowers, picking out many of the seasonal specialities alongside more familiar wayside plants. Not recommended for children under 8 years. Join the Ranger for a guided walk exploring the rich and varied wildlife of Dunwich Heath. Discover more about this special coastal landscape and the unique plant and animal species which thrive in this increasingly rare habitat. Children welcome. Model yacht sailing has been taking place in Southwold for over 100 years. A tremendously fun and absorbing activity which is easy to get the hang of. People of all ages and abilities can join in. Anyone is welcome to come and have a go – we can even lend you a boat for the day and show you what to do.
Races this morning, in the afternoon the Championships, for each of A, B and C boat classes – according to age of sailor and length of boat, as follows: Class A: boat of 27-36 inches, sailor any age; Class B: boat of 21-26 inches, sailor 18 or under; Class C: boat of 15-20 inches, sailor 13 and under. Boats must qualify for the Annual Championships by coming first in a regular race during the current season. The Championships are then contested by qualifiers through knockout heats and final. Plus the Nigel Boult Trophy for new boats (any age sailor and any type boat, provided it is sailing in its first season), Waveney Shield for sailors 16 and under sailing Class B and C boats which have won a burgee in the current season. (The Commodore’s Invitation Race will not take place this year). Next, and final, Regatta 24th August.
