Doors open at 2pm.

The 2027 Southwold New Year’s Day concert will feature a performance of Schubert’s 'Trout' Quintet, directed by Southwold-based pianist and composer Nathan Williamson.

Nathan will be joined by violinist Magnus Johnston, Concertmaster of the Royal Opera House, violist Jim O'Toole, cellist Jody Hughes, and bassist Andrew Durban.

The concert will take place at 3pm on 1st January in St. Edmund’s Church, lasting approximately 1 hour.

The 'Trout' Quintet - for the rather unusual ensemble of violin, viola, cello, double bass, and piano - is one of the most joyful and distinctive works in the chamber music repertoire, written when the composer was just 22 years of age. From its graceful opening, to a boisterous and virtuosic finale, with sparkling variations on Schubert's own song 'The Trout', the music is full of sunshine, intimacy and infectious good humour - the perfect way to start the New Year!
