How Britain Influenced Modern Art: VAN GOGH AND THE VICTORIANS

Venue: The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth IP19 8BY link
Van Gogh understood the Victorian values of ‘empathy’ and ‘compassion’ in a way that evaded his Parisian contemporaries. He developed a powerfully expressive form, which brought a humanity to the visual experiments of French Art. Fiona will trace the impact on British Art in the 19th and 20th century of this alternative visual tradition. This talk links to The EY Exhibition: Van Gogh and Britain at Tate Britain.
