Cinema @ The Cut - MRS LOWRY & SON (PG)

Venue: The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth IP19 8BY link
Director Adrian Noble, 2019, UK, 91 mins, with Timothy Spall, Vanessa Redgrave, Stephen Lord. The industrial landscapes for which LS Lowry eventually became famous could not have been a greater contrast to the fussy, chintzy world that he shared with his ailing mother. Vanessa Redgrave gives a great performance as the cantankerous and bitter woman who refused to encourage her son in his artistic endeavours, calling them 'a hobby' that no one wanted to buy.
